“Got into dance music and hip hop in about 88/89 at a young age, all thanks to my older brother. That’s when I first wanted to be a DJ Listening to Inner city, Soul to Soul as well as Big daddy kane, mantronix, BDP, De la Soul, Ice T, ll cool j, NWA, Gang Starr, Ultra magnetic mcs, The Doc, Paris, X clan and many others. At the same time i used to listen to other early dance acts like bomb the Bass and other things like deep heat 89 which had tracks on it from people like Derrick May, FSOL, Guy called Gerald, Suano Latino and more. Then through 1990/early 91 was heavily into things from Hijack (Doomsday of rap, hold no hostage, badman is robin) and various other UK hip hop artists like Hardnoise, Demon boyz, Red ninja, Gunshot, Cash crew, Ruthless Rap assassins ect. Also at this point was into things from 808 state, LFO, early D ZONE, Shut up and dance records, a homeboy hippy and a funky dread (total confusion), the scientist (the exorcist, the bee, Kickin records) things like that.

Then in early ‘91 is when i first started having a go at mixing on Technics at my brothers friends house, things like Mentasm, Energy flash (Beltram) early R&S records, Frank de wulf, Homicide (shades of rhythm), **** the Legal stations (Shut up and dance). The Phantom (Renegade Soundwave) Kirks nightmare (4hero) At this point i really got into the early hardcore sound and was hooked. My brother was going to raves around this time and was also recording old pirate stations like Rave FM and getting loads of tapes from DJs like Grooverider, Fabio, Mickey Finn, Top Buzz, Sasha, Carl Cox, Doc Scott, DJ SS and More. Then on into 92 i was still listening to shit loads of old rave tapes, this is when I first heard LTJ BUKEM at Dreamscape 4 he was dropping things on labels like Reinforced, Ibiza, early lucky spin, and that was it !! For me he was the DJ above all others that i would follow right up until the present day, all through the early 90s his sets could not be bettered by anyone else.

He introduced me to the deeper sounds and early forms of drum and bass from producers like DJ Crystal, Peshay, forces of nature, Bizzy b, Invisible man, Foul Play, Omni trio, Jmj & Richie, Tayla, Photek, Source Direct, Total Science, Wax Doctor, Pfm and loads more. Then onto about 96/97 i started hearing sounds from the new artists on Good looking and other deeper labels, people like Blame, Seba, Big Bud, Phd, Artemis, future engineers, paradox, kmc, intense, etc. I've always tried to keep in touch with what was going on in the dnb scene on other labels aswell. Goldie and the Metalheadz label being one of these.”
